Loom Handmade: When the tradition of the loom meets fashion!
Antonia Stathakis from Argyroupoli Rethymno Crete knew the art of the loom from her mother Helen. And with a vision to spread the ancient art of loom across the world and modernize tradition, she created the Loom.
Each piece bears the stamp of uniqueness, none is identical to another! Their construction is done entirely using traditional handlooms existing since 1910, since Loom means “loom”, while the materials are only naturally derived mainly from Crete.
The fabulous Nadeen Art Shoes
The talented painter / Illustrator Dimitra Psychogyios has written and illustrated tales, delivers painting classes, jewelery, sewing and knitting and the last two years paints, among other things, handmade ‘fairytale’ shoes.
We visited her at the beautiful and colorful workshop “Petra-Psalidi-Harti” in Ano Petralona where she makes handmade sandals and espadrilles. She began, she says, by painting her favorite fairy tales on each side of the shoe and then developed her work by adding new materials and designs. Made with love and many colored fabrics, joined together with colored threads, embroidered by hand or sewing machine, these shoes are hand-made, unique and each pair has its own, unique character.
